| BEING BIPOC & NAVIGATING SEX(Y) SPACES & REPRESENTATIONS |
| Moderation: Butchibou (dancer, community organizer, curator) We, Black people, racialized people, non-white people—where are we in the world of sex? Porn is a source of imaginaries, desires, projections, and aspirations. No surprise! Sex on screen fuels our own fantasies, from the most intimate and secret to the most openly embraced. What feeds this porn, and in return, how does it influence us? Whether it’s the lack of representation—beyond racist stereotypes—of racialized bodies in porn, access to sets, equal treatment and pay, or the place of racialized people in the alternative sex-positive scene (kinky parties, erotic performers, BDSM practices among racialized people…), we propose to collectively take stock of this “scene”: its stakes, limits, and issues specifically tied to our communities; but also the possible spaces of solidarity, struggle, joy, and empowerment that emerge from these environments, which are more than ever both intimate and political. How do we find ourselves and become aroused on porn production sets? What power dynamics, shaped by histories of colonialism and racism, are at play in our practices of domination and submission? How do we engage with spaces of alternative sexualities: what conditions are needed for us to feel welcome and comfortable? Our extraordinary guests—a porn performer, an erotic artist, an experienced kinkster, and a sex-positive event organizer—speak with each other and speak to YOU to discuss these pressing questions. This pannel discussion is preceeded by the screening of the film Sexy in Colour: Kinky and Loving It!, directed by David Weathersby and Mr. Scott. |
