Behind the Pornographic Eye proposes to shift our gaze. To move beyond the surface of images and enter their backstage—where bodies, narratives, and desires are constructed, along with working conditions, negotiations, and gestures of care.
Through a journey combining photography, video, and installation, the exhibition spans multiple histories of porn over nearly three centuries: from clandestine screenings to digital platforms, from large-scale mainstream productions—where the industry imposes its forms and norms—to contemporary queer and feminist practices that produce their own images as means of subsistence and autonomy.
If the obscene designates what is deemed unworthy of the stage—what remains off-screen, concealed in the making of the visible—then here, the backstage and the pornographic act become central. Aftercare, intimacy coordination, and technical apparatuses are no longer relegated to the background; they become the image itself.
By making visible these usually obscured spaces, the exhibition questions what constitutes an image, what constitutes cinema, and what, even today, remains confined to its margins.
We have partnered with artist Simon Aubry Picaudot (the creator of our alien trophies!) to create an OnlyFans “tour”: an immersive experience where cacophonies of desire permeate the limits of perception, with works that redefine what is the scene and what is ob/scene, what is film and what is backstage. Where desire appears with its flaws, its goofs, the in-between moments that make sex real, close, and deliciously “amateur”.

What we want to see is videos that show everything:
the action is not cut, we can see the surroundings, the dispositif behind the shooting: cameras, lights, another cellphone, sound equipment...
Where the setting is on camera, where we can see what exists beyond the action itself.
And of course, a lot of intense love-making!
