| Let This Be a Little Sır/سِرّ Between Us, Dear : Erotic scripts for the SWANA imagination |
| Did the actors in your Turkish p*rn suddenly start speaking Spanish? Have you been wondering whether you will ever see an Arab man held with softness and care on screen? This workshop invites participants to imagine erotic and sensual representation beyond the usual trap: our bodies made hypervisible as fantasy, while our sensualities remain unseen. We will begin with a screening of Scenes I Imagine (2020, 46 min) with Metin Akdemir (Dir.). The film reworks 1980s Turkish cinema through a queer lens, opening space for female* desire and other forms of intimacy left outside the frame. This will be followed by a Q+A and roundtable on clichés, fetishisation, and images shaped by/for a Western gaze. Later, participants will be guided through a writing/sharing session using memories, places, taboos, and ordinary objects to imagine scenes and atmospheres. |

TRIGGER WARNINGS:
Due to the nature of the workshop, we will be discussing elements of sex/-ual acts including broad subjects of desire and fetish. We will pay attention to context and potential trauma responses, while maintaining a sense of freedom to various imaginations. At the same time, considering our aim is to address a broader public, and our lived experiences are still limited to our own; perhaps a general warning on exploration of various sexual topics is in order. As a side note, we will also be including a consent form and possibility for individual responses in the registration form.
Meriç (he/they) and Ali (he/they) are from Turkey now Brussels-based researchers and community builders working on queerness, migration, desire, and community. Metin Akdemir is a queer filmmaker and curator living between Berlin and Istanbul. Together, they want to bring research, cinema, and collective imagination into a workshop space shaped by care, reflection, and playful conversation.
